Community Activity: Science is Fun

DENGKIL, 10th July 2019 & 1st August 2019 - About 18 ITAFoS staff have successfully implemented program ‘Science is Fun’ as community activity for 46 indigenous students from Year 4 and 5 at Bukit Tampoi (A) National School, Dengkil, Selangor. The program was co-organized by the Laboratory of Food Safety and Food Integrity and the Laboratory of Sustainable Animal Production and Biodiversity. Maybank has generously donated 50 school bags to the students involved. The program aimed to provide students with early exposure to the importance of science subjects and to engage students in science subjects by conducting hands-on experiments. Among the activities that were carried out were, Good and Bad Bacteria (Basic introduction to bacteria), Eggucation: Chick Hatching in School (Basic introduction to chicken life cycle) and Junior Scientists (Basic introduction to the nature of materials and energy). Two series of activities have been conducted. The first series of the program intended to transfer of knowledge to the students and the second series was to assess the students' understanding of the activities that been taught. All the students that were involved gained useful information and experience throughout the course.
