Food Safety Webinar Series 2/2022: “Apakah Impak Bahaya Kimia dan Mikrobiologi kepada Keselamatan Makanan?”

SERDANG, August 26 – Laboratory of Food Safety and Food Integrity (FOSFI), Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in collaboration the Department of Food Science (JSM), Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), UPM has organized a webinar of "Apakah Impak Bahaya Kimia dan Mikrobiologi kepada Keselamatan Makanan?” on August 26, 2022. This webinar is the second series of Food Safety Webinar organized in 2022. The nearly 2.5 hour webinar was led by Dr. Noor Azira Abdul Mutalib, Research Associate at FOSFI and also Senior Lecturer at the Department of Food Service and Management, FSTM and, as moderator. Knowledge sharing were delivered by 2 invited panel which were Dr. Nuzul Noorahya Jambari and Dr. Nurul Hawa Ahmad, Research Associate at FOSFI and also Senior Lecturer at JSM. Their area of ​​expertise is Food Chemical and Microbiological Safety which is closely related to food poisoning cases. The organizing committee of this webinar consists of FOSFI staff.

More than 140 participants from inside and outside UPM have participated in this webinar. Among the contents of the webinar were discussions on the sources of chemical and microbiological food contamination, foodborne diseases and the issues regarding chemical and microbiological food contamination. As this webinar is conducted in general, the participation is very encouraging following the selection of topics that are so relevant to all walks of life. Participation comes from UPM staff and students, public and private institutional of education and higher education, government agencies, food industry and public. Overall, this webinar is seen to have achieved the objective of its organization which is to increase the awareness of participants on aspects of chemical and microbiological food safety and the importance of avoiding contamination and food poisoning. Based on the received feedback, most of the participants were very satisfied with this webinar and requesting for an extension of duration as well as the third part of webinar. It is also hoped that such programs can be continued in the future as an effort to create a society that is aware of food security and apply the knowledge gained in their daily lives. All participants who attended were given e-certificates and participants from UPM also obtained Continuous Professional Development (CPD) credit points.
