ITAFoS Organizes Community Project with Secondary School Students of Special Education

Kota Bharu - Laboratory of Climate-Smart Food Crop Production, Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security organized a community programme ‘Knowledge Technology Transfer of Fertigation Planting System’, at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Melor, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. This programme  with the aim of implementing technology transfer in food crop fertigation system to secondary school students of special education (pelajar pendidikan khas integrasi). This programme also provides long-term agriculture training so that students able to cultivate crops using this method as a source of their income in the future. A total of approximately 30 special education students as well as their teachers gained skills in modern agriculture. Three cycles of fertigation in cultivation were done. The first cycle was the transfer of technology to students and the second and third cycle was the period of monitoring to see that technology has been transferred successfully practiced by the student without problems. All students have benefited from learning of new knowledge, new agricultural technologies and useful information on the ‘hands on practices’ and learning session during the programme.
