Serdang, 22 April - Laboratory of Food Crops, Insitute of Tropical Agriculture (ITA) has organized 2nd LRGS Colloquium - Food Security, at Engineering Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering, UPM. This colloquium aim to give LRGS's research information and show research results that were produced. This programme was launched by Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Shukor Juraimi in his opening address.

 

ITA's Director, Prof. Dr. Zulkifli Idrus and LRGS Head Programme, Prof. Dr. Mohd Razi Ismail were also attending in this colloquium. This colloquium initiated with Public Lecture SEARCA Profesional Chair by Prof. Dr. Mohd Razi Ismail. In his lecture, he emphasizing the understanding to develop self-defense within plant organs that lead to adaptation upon exposure to external environmental stresses conditions.

Polyamines approach can reduce water stress in plants through osmotic adjusment can be used in abiotic stress tolerance. Optimization potassium fertilization also can be used for rice plant grown under limited water conditions.

 

Each project leader also had given latest information on project involved in LRGS. Among them were Prof. Dr. Shamshuddin Jusop (Project 2 - Alleviation of Soil Degradation). Prof. Dr. Wickneswari Ratnam (Project 3 - Genetic Improvement) and Datin Paduka Prof. Dr. Fatimah Mohamed Arshad (Project 6 - The Economic Efficiency and Sustainability of Paddy and Rice Industry in Malaysia).
