Seminar Series 1/2023: Understanding of the Codex Alimentarius Commission System and EU Regulation

SERDANG, October 26 – The Laboratory of Food Safety and Food Integrity (FOSFI), Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has organized a seminar on “Understanding of the Codex Alimentarius Commission System and EU Regulation” on October 26, 2023. The nearly 1.5-hour seminar was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Faizal Abdull Razis, Research Associate at FOSFI, as moderator. Knowledge sharing was delivered by the invited speaker which was Prof. Dr. Jin-Wook Kwon, from the National Institute of Fisheries Science, Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries, Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), Republic of Korea. His area of ​​expertise is Food Analysis and Risk Assessment in food and environment. The organizing committee of this webinar consists of FOSFI staff.

Among the contents of the webinar were discussions on the “Codex Alimentarius Commission” system and related issues regarding chemical and microbiological contamination in food and the environment. Participation comes from UPM staff and students, government agencies, the food industry and the public. Overall, this webinar is seen to have achieved the objective of its organization which is to increase the awareness of participants on the “Codex Alimentarius Commission” system and its relations with food safety. Based on the received feedback, most of the participants were very satisfied with this seminar. It is also hoped that such programs can be continued in the future as an effort to create a society that is aware of food security and apply the knowledge gained in their daily lives. All participants who attended were given e-certificates and participants from UPM also obtained Continuous Professional Development (CPD) credit points.
