SERDANG (15 Mar 2023) - A total of 47 students accompanied by eight teachers from Teluk Intan Vocational College, attended ITAFoS for a half-day Study Tour activity. The objective of visiting UPM is to expose the students from the Poultry Agro-Industry Unit to livestock activities at UPM.

Their visit also received the cooperation of the Putra Agricultural Center, especially in the Quail Unit, Meat, and Dairy Unit. The Deputy Director of ITAFoS, Associate Prof. Dr. Hasliza Abu Hassim, welcomed them to the Quail Unit.

The participants received a briefing from the Quail Unit officer regarding the management and care of poultry animals. Participants learned how to manage the growing area to fulfill the bird's basic needs.

The next activity was visiting Farm 16. The Meat Unit officer briefed them on livestock management for ruminants such as cows and deer. According to one of the teachers, the ruminant unit is one of the most appropriate places to visit because it is part of the Animal Science syllabus they study in college. Some students and teachers also had the opportunity to taste fresh cow's milk from the unit.

The exposure related to food security will open their eyes and interest in agriculture research capabilities available in Malaysia, especially in local universities such as UPM.
