VILLAGE ADOPTED PROGRAM INSTITUTE OF TROPICAL AGRICULTURE & FOOD SECURITY (ITAFoS), UPM

For the first time, ITAFoS has held a Village Adopted Program with the target agriculture-based especially on rice farmer’s economy. The rice crop is the major issue as the main agenda of the country in relation to the food security. Consequently, to this matter, this program was officiated on March 2, 2024 in Kampung Langgar, Pekan, Pahang as one of the ITAFoS, UPM initiatives to aid and challenge with the issue.

This program is collaborative with the Integrated Agricultural Development Area (IADA) of Pekan and water users Group (KPA) of Mawar, Kampung Langgar, Pekan, this program was officially held which involves nearly 50 people including members of the ITAFoS Management, UPM. This program was attended by YB. Dato' Sri Haji Sh. Fuzi Sh. Ali, Pekan Member of Parliament and YB Dato' Mohamed Nizar Dato' Sri Najib, Peramujaya Member of the State Legislative Assembly Exco as a sign of support to farmers, IADA Pekan dan ITAFoS, UPM.

The objective of implementing this program is to transfer knowledge to rice farmers, to increase their rice production and their revenue. It is expected that this program will last for 3-5 years, with the monitoring of the program committee that has been appointed.

Hopefully this program can benefit the local community and further help improve their socioeconomics and further increase the average yield of rice in IADA Pekan.
