WEBINAR ‘THE IMPORTANCE OF FOOD SECURITY IN THE COUNTRY’ AND VISIT TO LIVESTOCK FARM WITH UPM EXPERTS INVOLVING PENANG STATE FARMERS

On 18 May 2022, a total of five staff from the Laboratory of Sustainable Animal Production and Biodiversity and the Deputy Director were involved in organizing a Webinar Program entitled 'The Importance of Food Security in the Country' and visited livestock farms in Penang. This program also involves the Department of Veterinary Services Penang (DVS), since the beginning of this activity was carried out in early 2020.

The Institute also invited a lecturer from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and an Amal Putra from the Institute of Biosciences to deliver talks on livestock health and biosecurity, according to their respective fields. About 70 poultry and ruminant farmers participated in the webinar. After the webinar program ended, the DVS took everyone involved to visit a livestock farm which is monitored by the DVS itself.

During the visit, all those present were also given a brief description of the breeder's successful journey. With the presence of three experts from UPM, the breeders also shared problems and received advice directly from experts.

Overall, the organization of this program can help the breeder community regarding proper and effective livestock management as well as increase the productivity of the livestock industry in the country.
