What benefits are there to do research in ITAFoS? 

All researchers are given an advantage of using our facilities and instruments both in the field and laboratories with the assistance of our professional staff team.

Who are the researchers in ITAFoS?

Our research team are well-recognised academicians in fields of food crops, plantation and animal production. They are the frontiers in their respective research area and received multiple research grants from public, private and international agencies and organisations.

How many research laboratories and plant study places (farms/plant shelter units) are there in the Climate-Smart Food Crop Production Laboratory?

There are 4 research laboratories and 3 units of farm/plant protection house units that are available with high-tech laboratory equipment and the structure of the farm/plant protection house unit that meets the characteristics of Good Agricultural Practices (APB). Please refer HERE

How long is the duration for MSc and PhD studies?

For MSc, 4-6 semesters (2-3 years) and for PhD 6-10 semesters (3-5 years). For further detail information please refer to www.sgs.upm.edu.my

I wish to enrol as a postgraduate student in ITAFoS.  May I know the available field of study offered?

I am not an ITAFoS student. Can I use the equipment in the ITAFoS laboratory and how do I apply?  

Yes. If the equipments you want to use are included in the category of equipment rental services, please refer to https://itafos.upm.edu.my/services-4087 and you need to fill in the Facility Reservation form. If the said equipment is not a rental equipment, please liaise directly with the Officer in Charge of the laboratory.

Does ITAFoS allow students to use the laboratory, equipment and facilities outside office hours?

ITAFoS practices a staff attendance policy for all activities involving the use of laboratories, equipment, and facilities to ensure the safety of individuals and the areas used. Therefore, any use outside office hours needs to make an application and get approval from the ITAFoS management.

Does ITAFoS accept students for Industrial Training/ Practicum Training?

ITAFoS is ready to accept university/college students to undergo Industrial Training/ Practicum Training covering any field of study as listed in Academic section including the fields of biology, microbiology and precision agriculture.

If I am interested in doing research or continuing my studies related to areas related to food integrity and safety, who should I consult with?

You can refer to the Laboratory of Food Safety and Food Integrity.

If I register as a student under the Food Safety and Food Integrity Laboratory, can I use the facilities in other laboratories?

Yes, you can. You just need to discuss and apply with the officer in charge of the laboratory.

What is ITAFoS offers to private sector and industries?

Beside our robust research team services, ITAFoS offers various field and laboratory services for R&D projects in food crops, food safety and food integrity, and also animal production.

Can I from an outside party send a sample of the test material to be analyzed at the ITAFoS laboratory?

Does the ITAFoS accept visitors?

ITAFoS is ready to receive visits from various parties, including schools. However, to avoid disruption to learning and research sessions in the laboratories and on the farm, we request that the visit request be made at least THREE MONTHS before the visit date. What is the history of LKDPM?

UPM established the Pusat Kajian Dasar Pertanian (PKDP) or Agricultural Policy Research Centre in 1984 with to contribute ideas in the form of policy suggestions in the field of agriculture to both government and community at large. PKDP was restructured on 1 June 2005 with a new identity, Institut Kajian Dasar Pertanian dan Makanan (IKDPM) or Agricultural and Food Policy Studies Institute (AFPSI). Nevertheless, on 1 July 2020, under Governance Transformation Plan, IKDPM became a Laboratori Kajian Dasar Pertanian dan Makanan (LKDPM) or Laboratory of Agricultural and Food Policy Studies (LKDPM) under the Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS).
