29 October 2024 - IPT Food Security Nexus Round Table Conference with representatives of IPT and IPTS in Malaysia was held at Putra Future Classroom, UPM Faculty of Education chaired by Prof Dr. Anjas Asmara Samsudin. IPT representatives were invited to discuss and plan the national food security status quo as well as the strategic plan including the establishment of IPT expertise data directory.

For information, IPT Food Security Nexus is joined by all IPT Universities (21 universities including UPM) and 7 IPTS namely Taylor's University, Sunway University, Xiamen University Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, UCSI University and Management & Science University. All the universities involved came to a consensus and agreed to make this Nexus a platform in strengthening the role of higher education institutions in addressing food security issues at the national and global level.

Prof Dato Dr. Zulkifli Idrus, Prof. Dr. Ts. Nurfadlina Mohd Sharef and Prof Datin Paduka Dr. Fatimah Arshad was also invited to participate in this conference. The IPT Food Security Nexus Team is led by the Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS) to mobilize UPM as the leader of the food security agenda among universities in Malaysia.  Through this, it is expected to be able to improve and strengthen the national food resource ecosystem through the initiatives, roles and actions of IPT and KPT in an effort to help deliver services to the community, specifically regarding food security
