NotebookLM AI Course Empowers Agricultural Research and Knowledge Management at UPM
SERDANG, 20 August 2026 – The Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS), Universiti Putra Malaysia, organised a course on ‘Utilising NotebookLM AI to Empower Research, Knowledge Management and Innovation in Smart Agriculture and Food Security at UPM.

The course was conducted by Dr. Rusli Abdullah, Adjunct Professor at the Institute for Social Science Studies (IPSAS), UPM, who shared insights on the application of Generative AI and Grounded AI, particularly NotebookLM, to support research activities and knowledge management.
The course introduced participants to the use of NotebookLM for systematically managing research documents, analysing scientific articles and literature, identifying key themes and research gaps, and generating summaries, research notes, FAQs and project documentation.
The training also covered the development of knowledge repositories, literature analysis and knowledge generation, research project management and documentation, as well as the development of AI workflows to support agricultural research and food security initiatives at UPM.

In addition, emphasis was placed on responsible AI use, research data protection, source verification and academic integrity to ensure that AI technologies are applied ethically and responsibly in research.
The course is expected to strengthen participants’ AI competencies and enhance the efficiency, collaboration and innovation of research activities, particularly in smart agriculture and food security, in support of the national food security agenda
