10 - 11 September 2024 - A total of 30 participants consisting of kenaf farmers and breeders along with several officers from the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board (LKTN) attended the Kenaf-Based Animal Feed Formulation and Manufacturing course. This course is organized by the Laboratory of Sustainable Animal Production and Biodiversity, Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS) UPM. It aims to give exposure to participants and improve skills in planting and using kenaf as silage for livestock.

This course is held theoretically and practically with animal nutrition expert, Associate Prof. Dr. Hasliza Abu Hassim and ITAFoS Agriculture Officer, Mr. Eddy Shahriza Jamein. The participants were given talks related to ruminant livestock nutrition and alternative feed production from agricultural waste. They were also exposed to the real techniques of producing quality and good silage for their livestock. The sharing of experiences from the participants can also increase the knowledge of the other participants.

This course series is also interspersed with visiting facilities and research being carried out by the Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS) such as the Black Soldier Fly project, the broiler chicken project and others. The Closing Ceremony of this course was also attended by Ts. Mohd Fadzhel bin Mohd Nasir, Deputy Director General (Development), LKTN.
