Microbiological Risk Assessment Workshop

SERDANG, December 18 – Laboratory of Food Safety and Food Integrity (FOSFI), Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS), UPM has organized a workshop on Microbiological Risk Assessment on December 18 and 19. The two-day workshop was fulfilled with lecture sessions at BKS 1, Food 5, Faculty of Food Sciences and Technology (FSTM), UPM on the first day and hands-on sessions at Foodcyber 2, Food 1, FSTM on the second day.

The program began with a lecture session delivered by Prof. Dr. Son Radu, research associate of FOSFI. The invited guest speaker was Dr. Chai Lay Ching from University of Malaya (UM) and Dr. New Chia Yeung from Go Plus Services Sdn Bhd. A total of 11 participants comprising of staff and students from UPM participated in the workshop.

Overall, the workshop was considered successful as participants gained new knowledge on microbiological risk assessment methods and the use of appropriate software to assess risk. The organizing committee hopes this workshop will be a good starting point for researchers planning to apply microbiological risk assessment into their future research. The workshop concluded with a presentation of certificates to participants and a discussion session during the tea break.
