On 4 – 6 June 2024, the Southern Region Training and Development Center (PLPP), Human Capital Development Division, Department of Agriculture Malaysia organized the Napier Technology Course which was conducted in the Seminar Room, Southern Region PLPP, Ayer Hitam, Johor. ITAFoS has been invited to share the knowledge and improve skills to Malaysian Department of Agriculture officers in post-harvest management of napier.

The knowledge sharing session started with the theory of silage followed by the practical session of making silage by the participants. The participants were exposed to the method of making silage starting from the selection of suitable napier grass, cutting of napier grass using a lawn mower, mixing of additives in the grass, packaging and labeling of the silage bags that have been prepared.

Understanding the proper concepts and techniques in silage production is very important to guarantee the quality of the silage. With good nutrition management, it can simultaneously help reduce the issue of fodder supply shortage and guarantee the sustainability of the ruminant livestock industry in Malaysia.
