Public Lecture 2019: Antimicrobial Resistance and the Effect on Food Safety and Security

SERDANG, 27th August 2019 – A public lecture entitled ‘Antimicrobial Resistance and the Effect on Food Safety and Security’ has been held on 27th August 2019 at DKTM1, Food 1 Building, Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This programme is organised by the Laboratory of Food Safety and Food Integrity, Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security, UPM and co-organised by FSTM, UPM. Prof. Dr. Steve Flint from Massey University, New Zealand has been the invited speaker. He is an expert in microbiological food safety and his main research interests are the food microbiology, dairy technology, rapid microbiological methods, biofilms, molecular techniques for food analysis, bacterial spores, thermophilic bacteria, foodborne pathogens (especially Listeria), food processing, solving microbiological problems in food manufacturing plants, cleaning systems for food manufacture as well as traceback analysis for pathogen contamination. Prof. Dr. Steve has shared his vast experience and knowledge in antimicrobial resistance and the effect on food safety and food security. He has emphasized that preventing food contamination even more important to avoid illnesses that are now harder to treat and can be lethal. This lecture has highlighted the development of a food safety culture and advanced tools for food traceability will help in ensuring the safety and security of food into the future.
