
MANONG, 14 May 2026 – The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia in collaboration with the Perak State Veterinary Services Department has organized a Small Ruminant Farming Skills Improvement Seminar Program on 13 to 14 May 2026 at Novotel Taiping and Koperasi Agro Ternak Melayu Perak Berhad, Manong, Perak. This program is also part of the Empowering the Goat Farming Community Project through the UPM Knowledge Transfer and Innovation Program with Koperasi Agro Ternak Melayu Perak.
The two-day program aims to provide exposure and improve the skills of participants in aspects of modern and sustainable goat farming management. Among the main focuses highlighted include nutritional management, livestock health, record management, feed preparation and marketing strategies in the small ruminant industry.
This seminar and workshop also featured expertise from the Sustainable Animal Production and Biodiversity Laboratory, Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS), Universiti Putra Malaysia who were invited as speakers and programme facilitators.
Among the main contents of the programme was a talk entitled “Small Ruminant Nutrition Management” delivered by Dr. Mohd Nazri Md Nayan. The talk emphasised the importance of balanced feed formulations to increase goat productivity and health.
In addition, an interactive question and answer session with experts was also held involving Prof. Dr. Anjas Asmara Samsudin together with representatives from the Perak State Veterinary Services Department and Universiti Putra Malaysia. This session provided participants with the opportunity to obtain first-hand information on current challenges and issues in the goat farming industry.
The programme was also enlivened with a practical session on silage making techniques and record keeping conducted by Prof. Dr. Hasliza Abu Hassim, Dr. Mohd Nazri Md Nayan, Mr. Eddy Shahriza Jamein and Mr. Ahmad Zahidi Mohamed Rashid. Through this practical session, participants were exposed to the correct silage preparation techniques as a quality livestock feed alternative as well as systematic record keeping methods to help improve farm management.

The organization of this program is hoped to help strengthen the knowledge and skills of local farmers, thus supporting the development of a more sustainable, competitive and technologically advanced small ruminant farming industry in the State of Perak.
