UPM MICROBIAL CULTURE COLLECTION (UPM-MCC) ROADSHOW PROGRAMME

20 January 2026 – The Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS) hosted a visit from the UPM Microbial Culture Collection (UPM-MCC), Institute of Bioscience, through the UPM-MCC Roadshow Programme, which was held at the ITAFoS Meeting Room.

The programme, which took place from 2.30 p.m. to 4.00 p.m., was delivered by Ms. Musliyana Mansor, Science Officer from the Institute of Bioscience. The objective of the programme was to raise awareness among the UPM community, particularly ITAFoS members, on the importance of long-term microbial culture preservation, as well as to introduce the Universiti Putra Malaysia Policy on the Deposition of Microorganisms of Importance (2024).

Throughout the roadshow session, participants were provided with insights into the role of the UPM Microbial Culture Collection (UPM-MCC) in ensuring the safety, sustainability, and usability of microbial cultures for research, teaching, and innovation purposes. The briefing also emphasized compliance with university policies in line with national and international best practices.

The programme received an encouraging response, with a total of 17 participants comprising laboratory officers and research officers from ITAFoS. The question-and-answer session further facilitated active discussions and experience sharing related to microorganism management and deposition.
